Some 346 Officers and Men of the WWI British Army were court martialed and executed. Many of the trials were poorly conducted, with inadequate defences, and the reviewing officers often unaware of any mitigating circumstances. There is much current unease regarding these executions. The politician have refused to do anything, although the court martial rules have had to be revised because of a recent (but unrelated to these cases) ruling by the European Court on Human Rights.
