GODS OF WAR: MEMOIR OF A GERMAN SOLDIER

The experiences of a Waffen SS soldier in WWII. He volunteered at the age of 17, became an officer in the Das Reich Division and served on the Western and Eastern fronts. He was Wounded in 1943 during the battle for Zhitomir, eventually losing his leg. At the end of the war he was captured by the Allies but, being guilty of no war crimes, was finally released. There is a fascinating twist in the story when he returns to France seventeen years after the war
