The first passenger fatality in aviation was in 1908 - a lieutenant in the US Army was killed in a Wright plane crash. This book examines some of the most sensational crashes in the half century since this happened. They include the North east Airlines crash in 1957 at Rijkers Island, bombing hazards, mechanical faults and fire hazards in flight.

I FLEW FOR THE FUHRER

Scarce March 1954 edition. The author's life in the Third Reich from the "Jungfolk" to top fighter pilot. Heinz Knoke was one of the Luftwaffe's bravest and most skilful fighter Pilots of WWII. A survivor, he saw action over Russia and flew over 2000 missions until he was grounded by crippling injuries. He shot down 52 Allied aircraft during the desperate battles over the Reich in the face of the USAAF air campaign and was awarded the Knights Cross.

HE 111: OVER ALL FRONTS

During its development in the early 1930s, the Heinkel He 111 was described as a "Wolf in sheep's clothing". It masqueraded as a transport aircraft, though its actual role was as a fast medium bomber. It saw initial service in the Spanish Civil War, was used in the 1939 Polish Campaign and 1940 Battle of France. It also carried the brunt of action in the Battle of Britain. Thereafter, the He 111 served in all European, North African and Mediterranean theatres, as well as providing the backbone of the Luftwaffe's tactical and strategic bombing operations on the Eastern Front.
