HOOD AND BISMARCK

The meeting of the German Battleship, Bismarck and the British Battlecruiser, HMS Hood in 1941 ended with the destruction of the two ships and the loss of 3500 lives. The Bismarck, having only been at sea for six days, sank the Hood, which went down in just three-and-a-half minutes in the icy waters of the Denmark Strait. In retaliation the British sent every available ship and plane to destroy Bismarck. Nine days after she first set sail she was spotted by an RAF Catalina and destroyed by a British Battle Fleet led by the Flagship, King George V and the Battleship, Rodney.
